Online CPD: Fire Safety and Architecture – Direction of Change and Common Issues

Available until 21 April 2021

Proposed RIBA Curriculum Topic: Legal, regulatory and statutory compliance

Fire safety and building design remain crucial challenges for architects.  Guidance for fire safety design of buildings across the UK and Ireland can appear complicated and open to interpretation with many options, grey areas and approval risks, making it difficult to design safely.

RSUA have partnered with BB7/Goldsmith Engineering to offer this afternoon seminar to break down the Building Regulations processes and Guidance Documents in use throughout the UK and Ireland, along with recent updates to fire safety guidance.  The session will also discuss some common queries and issues architects encounter in design and on-site with fire safety.

The aim of this seminar is to give architects a clearer understanding of their responsibilities under Building Regulations, improve their knowledge in the field of fire safety and provide answers to some common queries.

Course Content:

Fire Engineering: Change in Legislation and Guidance (UK and Ireland):

  • Post Hackitt Review – Reformed Building Safety Regulatory System and Fire Safety Bill; and
  • Updates to guidance within Approved Document B and Technical Guidance Document B.

Fire Safety Engineering – Design:

  • External Fire Spread/Fa├žade Design; and
  • Open Plan Flats.

Fire Engineering – Detailing and Construction:

  • Examples of importance of correct construction detailing; and

There will be time at the end for any questions on Fire Engineering you may have.
