The Northern Ireland Housing Executive is the Home Energy Conservation Authority for Northern Ireland and a major provider of public housing with around 86,000 homes across NI.  The energy efficiency of their building stock is important both to the individuals who live there and also to society as we try to mitigate the effects of climate change. 

RSUA has organised this seminar to examine a pilot project in Newry which saw five dwellings selected for a research project which aimed to establish the most economically viable way of retrofitting NIHE houses while at the same time addressing fuel poverty and the comfort levels of occupants

Caroline Best is an Architect and Technical Development Manager for Asset Management at the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.  Caroline‚Äôs responsibilities include the continuous development of technical policies and standards to improve the quality and energy efficiency of existing stock and accessible adaptations.  Pilot schemes form a major part of her research which focuses on investigating the practical application of fabric-first retrofit measures in social housing. She is a qualified Retrofit Coordinator and a certified Passive House Consultant.
