Building Tour of Bagenal’s Castle, Newry & General Meeting

The next General Meeting and architect-led building tour will take place on Friday 1 October 2021 at Bagenal’s Castle in Newry.

The meeting will begin at 12.30pm over a sandwich lunch followed by the building tour at 2pm.

Bagenal’s Castle is a 16th century fortified house and adjoining 19th century warehouse which houses Newry & Mourne visitor information centre. Rediscovered in 1996, Bagenal’s Castle was enveloped in the premises of the former McCann’s Bakery on Abbey Way. The rediscovery has been an exciting opportunity to preserve and restore one of the most important aspects of local heritage.

Consarc undertook the conservation project and architect Roisin Donnelly will lead the tour of the building.

The General Meeting which precedes the tour is an opportunity for members to find out more about the organisation’s activities, to ask questions, raise issues, propose initiatives and to meet other RSUA members.
