Conference at St Mel’s Cathedral
Location: St Mel, Longford
Date: 17 February 2016
The Advisory Committee on Art and Architecture to the Episcopal Commission for Liturgy are pleased to announce a day conference for artists and architects in the newly restored cathedral of St Mel, Longford, on 17 February 2016.
FR KIM EN JOONG
Keynote speaker will be Fr. Kim en Joong, an internationally renowned liturgical artist who was commissioned to design stained-glass windows for the restoration. Uncompromisingly modern, Joong’s designs are meditation on the human condition – between a profane and spiritual work.

There will also be an opportunity to talk to many of the artists who provided works of art in the cathedral. Among them, Angela Godfrey, Brian Byrne, Fr David O’Riordan, Denise Donovan, Imogen Stuart, James Scanlon, Ken Thompson, Kevin Flood, Kevin Lynch, Laura O’Hagan
A presentation will be given by Colm Redmond, MRIAI RIBA, Fitzgerald Kavanagh Architects, on the conservation work that took place on this nationally significant building.
This event will qualify for 4 CPD points for RIAI members.
The cost for the day will be €35. A concessionary fee of €15 is available to students.
Registration is at 10.00am in the crypt. Access is from the rear of the cathedral. The day will conclude at 4pm and lunch is included. Please book in advance. For more information and to book please contact:-
