Introducing BIM to Public Sector Projects in Northern Ireland

Government believes the implementation of BIM Level 2 has the potential to generate efficiency savings in public sector construction projects.  From 1 April 2016 many of the major projects in Northern Ireland will be procured on the basis that they will be delivered to BIM Level 2.  The RSUA has organised Introducing BIM to public sector projects in Northern Ireland in partnership with the Central Procurement Directorate (CPD) to help architects prepare for bids involving BIM.

Who should attend?
This seminar is aimed at architects, architectural technologists, architectural students and other construction professionals.  It is of particular relevance to architectural practices that have an interest in bidding for public sector projects in Northern Ireland with values of over £4.3m (approx EU threshold).


Michael McLornan, Central Procurement Directorate (CPD). Michael is a Chartered Architect with many years experience working in professional practice prior to joining CPD in August 2014.  Michael has been leading Northern Ireland Government BIM policy into operation through the Procurement Practitioners Group for construction works and services (PPGcws) BIM Task & Finish Group.

His role involves consultation with the Centres of Procurement Expertise (CoPEs) and the local construction industry in the development of procurement guidance and a strategy for the delivery of BIM Level 2 in Northern Ireland.

Mark McKane, BIM Regions Northern Ireland Chairperson.  Mark is a Quantity Surveyor with many years experience working within professional practice and for local contractors prior to becoming a lecturer of Quantity Surveying and Construction Management at the University of Ulster.  He is the current “BIM Champion”for Northern Ireland as Chairperson of the BIM Regions Northern Ireland Steering Group and represents local interests at the Constuction Industry Council (CIC) UK BIM Champions Steering Group.
