We are looking for a motivated and talented architect or construction project manager to deliver on three of Northern Ireland's most exciting cultural installations and a major globally recognised institution project all with 2022 completion.

PMO responsibility under Associate Director to support or lead on:
• National Museum Events Space Phase 2 design development, procurement and delivery including a banana tree expansion.
• Uk-wide touring festival delivery with globally recognised artist and major partners including delivery of a high-end 10km space-themed trail across 4 sites and two countries.
• Major university bespoke education space in one of the world's most prestigious libraries
• Supporting other USI exceptional projects such as art installations, bespoke public space projects, a new co-working church, and grade 1 listed spinning mill development.

About us

We are a fast-growing, creative start-up delivering exciting high-impact projects that solve issues in the places we live, work and play. We’re a purposely broad team of researchers, architects, designers, strategists, filmmakers, producers, planners, technologists and makers.

The studio has recently won a number of high-profile projects in Northern Ireland and the UK and is looking for a suitable part III architect or construction project manager to work on these exciting cultural, commercial & educational projects.

In 2021 the studio was responsible for delivering award-winning public space projects, a national museum space and cop26 installations.

The project & the role

The successful candidate will join the studio at an exciting time as it looks to grow and expand its architecture team.

We are looking for a self-starter with strong PMO management skills that can help us through all stages of RIBA delivery with particular experience in construction management, planning, building control and managing projects to completion.

Sick of working on mundane construction projects? We don't help ourselves trying to be innovative from 3D printed street lights to rotating globes for delegates and presidential expos but a day at USI is never boring, if this suits your personality reach out.

What you’ll be doing

-Lead numerous projects, manage design & consultant teams at all RIBA work stages

-Liaise with internal team and external consultants on design, buildability, construction, and master planning projects.

-Balance cost-effective building with innovative design to create value

-Write specifications

Manage specialist suppliers

We are after someone to

-Work collaboratively within the studio and wider design team

-Assist in developing better studio practices

-Has a willingness to engage with the studio culture, local community & network of tenants in and around the community our offices are based in.


-Exceptional design and technical skills

-RIBA Part III or equivalent qualification in construction management

-Minimum four years’ post qualification experience

-Excellent project management and problem-solving skills

-Have up to date knowledge of government and NI planning policies

-Good working knowledge of UK building regulations

-Good understanding of construction methods

-Sense of commerciality and willingness to be involved in all aspects of the business

-Fluency in spoken and written English

-Ability to prepare drawing packages for planning through to tender and construction stages

-Have excellent presentation and communication skills

-Experience working with listed buildings

Bonus Criteria

-Knowledge of 3D CAD software, Rhino, or SketchUp is a bonus

Where will the role be?

USI is a growing design studio based within a thriving creative community at Portview Belfast, along with an events space the studio operates, there is an onsite brewery and coffee roaster. We offer a flexible working environment but try to work in the studio as frequently as possible to allow creativity and collaboration to flow. The ideal candidate will be someone who can hit the ground running and is keen to play an integral part as we scale up the architectural design side of the studio.

Immediate and February starts.
