City Zeitgeist Cork 2020

*Postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic*

You are invited to sign up to the RSUA study trip – City Zeitgeist Cork 2020 – which will take place from Friday 12th June to Sunday 14thJune.

Due to the popularity of RSUA’s study trips in recent years we have now decided to hold a trip annually. We plan to alternate the destination between Britain or Ireland and continental Europe or farther afield. We are aiming to keep the cost of the more local trip relatively low and to limit the time off work to a single day.

The population of the island of Ireland is projected to grow from roughly 7 million to 9 million by 2050 and this increase is expected to be concentrated in our cities. Belfast, as the second largest city and Cork as the third largest, will share many of the same opportunities and challenges. This study trip will give us a chance to understand the past, present and future role of architecture in making Cork an attractive city for people to live, visit and invest.

We are planning to meet with the city officials who are shaping the built environment, including the city architect, and of course to see the best examples of architecture in the city and the hear from architects who designed them. Travel will be by train to keep our carbon footprint low and also to give the group the experience of the sustainable transport connections between the two cities.

Recent study trips have been very well attended by clients, planners, policy makers and other key players in the creation of our built environment and we hope to continue with this diverse mix in the group.

The trip is being curated by RSUA member Conor McKenna with the support of the RSUA staff team
