The Minister for the Department for the Economy, Diane Dodds MLA, has launched the Policy Options Consultation Paper for the new Energy Strategy. This document represents the second stage of public consultation in the development of a new Energy Strategy for Northern Ireland. The first stage of consultation was a Call for Evidence which was published in December 2019 and closed on 3 April 2020. One of the key principles is that consumers will be supported to invest in buildings and make changes that reduce their energy use.
This consultation also includes:
• a new strategic framework outlines DfE’s proposed vision for the Energy Strategy, a range of underlying principles around which all energy policies will be developed and key issues to prioritise in their delivery
• a range of illustrative energy scenarios to visualise how different potential future energy systems could be
• a series of potential policy options structured around their proposed principles and accompanied by consultation questions which follow on from the information provided through the Call for Evidence.
The consultation will close on 30 June 2021 and the announcement can be seen here.
