Part 3 students due to take their exams in September attended a virtual exam preparation discussion led by architects who are experts in their respective fields.
Opening the discussion, RSUA President Donal MacRandal spoke about professionalism in architectural practice. He was followed by Jennifer Harper from Isherwood and Ellis who presented on contractor designed elements and the compliance monitoring role.
Building regulations compliance for conservation works was covered by Roger Perrott from C60 Design and Bobby Moore from TODD Architects rounded off the presentations with information on fee proposals for integrated design teams.
The event, which is held annually and is attended by architecture students of all levels, closed with an open Q&A with the panel of speakers. They answered a range of questions from how best to tackle things you have no experience of doing yet, to identifying elements that are best left to contractor design and how much checking is reasonable in compliance monitoring.
Ciarán Fox, RSUA director, said: “A massive thanks is due to our four speakers for their valuable contributions. They ensured that the discussion was both fine-tuned for Part 3 exam students as well as an interesting refresher for any architect. We’d also like to wish all the Part 3 students all the very best in their coming exams – good luck!”
