Anna has used her own family history to inform this collection of thrown, decorated porcelain vessels, celebrating our once great linen industry.

Each bobbin shaped piece represents one of our many linen workers, each wearing decoration which symbolises their relationship to the mill, their work and each other.

Mill Couple 3 – from a series of individually created ceramic pieces. As such, no two will be identical.  Whilst intended to be displayed as a pair, they are available for individual purchase. Packaged in beautiful individual gift boxes which are free of charge whilst stocks last.

Description

Anna Smyth is from Newtownards, Northern Ireland. She graduated from Ulster University in 2017, with a First Class Honours Degree in Ceramics. She has exhibited at the New Designers show in London and has had work selected for the prestigious Royal Ulster Academy of Arts Annual Exhibition. Her contemporary handcrafted items are individually made on a potters wheel in her studio.

This body of work responds to the current interest in Irish linen heritage. This collection is entitled ” I worked in the Mill”.

In 2020, work from this series was purchased by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland for its public collection.
